Black Legacy Tour
About
Learn about black history on Chicago’s north Shore
Your tour will begin at a black-owned coffee shop where you will be met and greeted by the café owner. A guide from Shorefront Legacy Center will take you on a 45-minute guided bus tour through Evanston, where you will learn about:
• Early Black communities on the North Shore
• Red lining
• Reparations and systemic barriers to economic success
• History of Black housing at Northwestern University and why the east side is greener.
Afterwards, we will visit Shorefront Legacy Center where they collect, preserve, and educate people about Black history. Here, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from a local community leader. Lunch will be at a black-owned business.
Customizable add-ons will be available for your tour based on your group needs and interests: Available add-ons include stopping black owned businesses, such as bakeries, clothing stores; galleries and more.
*Special community organizers will join us throughout.
