Enjoy a fabulous day on Chicago’s North Shore with docent-led tours of the Halim Time and Glass Museum , and two historic landmarks* , The Charles Gates Dawes House and Wilmette History Museum.
Explore beauty and craftsmanship as you travel through time on a journey to discover the art and science of time keeping at the Halim Time & Glass Museum. More than 30 masterpiece windows tell the story of the American School of Stained Glass. Tiffany, Tillinghast, Lamb, Sperry - these are only a few of the masters on display. Over 1,100 timepieces are on display including tower clocks, chronometers, automatons, pocket watches and tall case clocks. Beautifully restored and preserved, the collection is one of the finest in the world.
The Charles Gates Dawes’ magnificent chateauesque mansion of former U.S. Vice-President Charles Gates Dawes is located adjacent to Lake Michigan. This National Historic Landmark has been faithfully restored to its 1920s origins and enhanced with exhibits focusing on Evanston history. Note: there are stairs.
The Wilmette History Museum is located in the former Gross Point Village Hall. Built in 1896, the Gross Point Village Hall is a lovely two-story, late-Victorian structure. During your visit you will learn the history of Native Americans on the North Shore, local legends, and step in the historial Gross point jail cell.
